MIDI Key Scan Computer for the MCU (MKSC-3) < Go Back
Click to view additional images MKSC-3 is a daughter-board designed specifically for the MCU. It is the control board containing circuitry to support all MCU functions.

Purchase

The MKSC-3 is included in the purchase of the MCU (MIDI Control Unit).

Description

The MKSC-3 is a single-purpose circuit board designed specifically for the MCU (MIDI Control Unit). The MKSC-3 controls all the functions on the MCU.

The heart of the MKSC-3 is the Microchip PIC16F877 8-Bit microcontroller. This microcontroller reads all switch inputs and performs a function corresponding to the configuration set in the internal memory. Due to the limited size of the internal memory, an external memory chip is used to store additional MCU configurations. Besides memory, the MKSC-3 has circuitry to drive the audio outputs (RCA phono jacks and headphone jacks). Five analog input pins are also read by the on-board microcontroller to correctly interpret the position of up to five swell shoes.

Features

  • Circuitry to interface up to three 61-note keyboards and one 32-note pedalboard (all parallel wired).

  • Scanning for a maximum of 105 switch inputs for functions such as stops and pistons.

  • Circuitry to support five analog inputs is available for volume, expression, tuning, and crescendo inputs.

  • Sends commands to simultaneously control up to four Ahlborn Archive SeriesTM (General Music Corporation, Italy) modules.

  • On-board memory chip stores up to 128 user configurations. These can be selected using the 8-position DIP switch on the MCU.

  • MIDI-input merge function allows multiple MIDI devices to be connected together.

  • Waveblaster header to support an optional GM-MIDI module.

  • Outputs commands to support computer-based synthesizer software and organ-simulation software such as SCPOP (Sound Canvas Pipe Organ Project).

  • Circuitry to support a headphone jack.

  • Circuitry to support ‘Line Left’ and ‘Line Right’ audio connections for audio equipment.

Applications

The MKSC-3 is used solely for the MCU.
